Diving the HMAS Swan

In Geographe Bay off the coast of Dunsborough lies the wreck of the HMAS Swan in about 35 meters of water. The Swan is 113 meters long and was, before it was decommissioned by the Royal Australian Navy, scuttled in 1997. A dive on the former naval destroyer is truly spectacular because of all the marine life you can see on the wreck. Lots of fish and other creatures now call the HMAS Swan their home.

Huge Samson Fish and schools of Bulls Eye fish are commonly seen around the dive site.
It's possible to dive the HMAS Swan from a private boat, but you'll need an access permit which you can buy at the Dunsborough Visitor Centre. If you don't have your own boat you can also join one of the commercial dive operators who offer loads of dive trips to the HMAS Swan.
Another very nice wreck dive site is the wreck of the HMAS Perth.
